Many of the people know there is a reconfiguration of the current Laurel Hospital. This reconfiguration is going to downsize the hospital from a full service hospital to a large Urgent Care operation.
Although there is alot of new development in the Laurel area and land value is high, this elephant in the room topic has not come up in town hall meetings. All that has come up is layoffs and no hidden agenda's.
The city of Laurel released the following information about the Hospital.
38 employees, most of them labor & delivery nurses, have received layoff notices; the Maternal & Child Health Unit will close October 11th in the first wave of a plan to change LRH from a full service hospital to an ambulatory care center
