Today, Mayor Vincent C. Gray led the first meeting of the DC Power Line Undergrounding Task Force. The 15-member panel of local utility industry executives, regulators, government officials and residents of neighborhoods often affected by power outages began the process of studying the feasibility of burying electrical wires in order to lessen the impact of severe weather on the District’s power grid.
“This task force in not about finger-pointing; it’s about working collaboratively to find solutions,” said Mayor Gray. “We’ve seen the various studies and cost estimates. The job now is to develop a plan that has short-term and long-term solutions to the problems associated with power outages, and I’m confident that today’s meeting is a good first step toward that goal.” source
